Tibia Mariner is a unique boss that appears in the game in three different locations. Even though the boss is considered a side boss, it drops a unique item you need for several scenarios. Here is all you need to know about Tibia Mariner.

Updated on May 28, 2022 by Charlene Maria Teressa: Elden Ring's boat-riding boss has continued to make its mark in distinct locations in The Lands Between. First found in Limgrave, the Tibia Mariner has since staked its territory from Wyndham Ruins in Altus Plateau to the Mountaintops of the Giants, with differences in attacks and move sets. We feel it would be more than suitable to add the entire array of Tibia Mariner bosses for a fully complete guide.

Tibia Mariner is a unique boss that you can find in Summonwater Village, Limgrave. The boss holds a horn while riding a small boat. Fighting the boss is optional, and you can progress in the story without facing him. Defeating the boss will get you the Deathroot and Skeletal Militiaman Ashes. Deathroot is a very important item that you need to unlock areas, quests, and progress the story further.

The boss appears in two more locations and has the same move set as the first one. However, they will be more difficult than the first one as they are located in high-level areas. Out of the Tibia Mariner bosses located in Liurnia, Altus Plateau, and the Mountaintops of the Giants, the Wyndham Ruins' Tibia Mariner is the most challenging to fight overall. This is because Wyndham Ruins is littered with Skeleton enemies that can resurrect if you don't deal another hit, as well as the addition of a new Giant Skeleton attack.

Still, the Deathroot is an item that is dropped by every Tibia Mariner boss that you can give Guranq, the Beast Clergyman at Caelid's Bestial Sanctum in exchange for rewards.

As for the Mountaintops of the Giants in Snow Valley Ruins Overlook, this boss does not have the lengthy boss health bar. Although indeed, the Giant Skeleton could still be summoned, this Mountaintops Tibia Mariner is quite easy, its only backup being the two Skeletal Snails.

Tibia Mariner Attacks

Elden Ring: How To Defeat Tibia Mariners (10)

Tibia Mariner is known for being one of the easier bosses in the game regardless of when you face him. Even though his attacks have a little variety, they do not pose much threat and do not deal much damage. The only attack to look out for is the Raise Boat attack, as it can deal a lot of damage if you are too late reacting to it. However, with the later Tibia Mariners, there are other attacks to look out for, especially when Giant Skeletons are summoned.

Battle Strategies

Elden Ring: How To Defeat Tibia Mariners (18)

There are three strategies for this fight: going in close and relentless attacking with your melee weapon, using Sorcery to decimate his health, or moving around on your horse and attacking when close to the boss.

For the Giant Skeleton, do not bother attacking it. Focus on the Tibia Mariner at all times.

Melee Strategy

Elden Ring: How To Defeat Tibia Mariners (19)

The melee strategy is the simplest by far. All you need to do is to run from the slam and Raise boat attack. Bring a heavy weapon if you have one, as it can be beneficial. A heavy weapon staggers the boss a lot and interrupts a few of his attacks. You can summon online players and Spirit Ashes for the fight. Ashes like the Lone Wolf Ashes can be great for the fight as they are aggressive and in a pack of three, making it a four versus one.

Especially for the boss fight in Altus Plateau and Mountaintops of the Giants, it is imperative to use effective Spirit Ashes. You may opt to use a tanky Spirit Ash such as the Kaiden Mercenary. Since its other weakness is sacred damage, we recommend you use the Coded Swordor Sacred Blade Ash of War for the higher-level fights. If you don't have such weapons in your armory, consider using Order's Blade spell or Holy Grease instead. Taking advantage of the weakness to sacred damage is key.

Mounted Strategy

Elden Ring: How To Defeat Tibia Mariners (20)

The mounted strategy might be the easiest out of all the strategies. This strategy ensures you stay on the boss and easily dodge any attack by dashing away from the boss. Plus, you can quickly go to the boss's location when he uses teleport.

You can also choose which direction to attack from on the horse by pressing the Left and Right bumpers.

Ranged Strategy

Elden Ring: How To Defeat Tibia Mariners (21)

For the ranged strategy, you can do this while mounted on a horse or simply on the ground. Being mounted on the horse will give you space to move around and channel your spells. Swift Glintstone Shard (Sorcery) is the best spell to use in the fight as it has low cast animation and does not take much FP.

You can bring all Flasks of Cerulean Tears to restore FP if you're confident you won't need much healing.

The boss does not have any long-range attacks, so he can not punish you. Therefore, bringing Health Potions is not necessary if you're good at dodging skeleton attacks.

Using a bow is not advisable as it shoots very slowly, and does not do much damage. Still, if you want to go with a bow, then using a short bow is recommended as it has a much faster fire rate. As for Wyndham Ruins, consider using the tanky Spirit Ashes recommended above to back you up. For Mountaintops, you can literally cheese by staying on the ledge above and spamming Loretta's Greatbow on him.
