Heat Pump Packaged HVAC System FAQs
While a traditional split system heat pump features one indoor unit and one outdoor unit that work together to regulate the temperature in your home, a heat pump packaged system combines all necessary components into one outdoor cabinet. That means, the system can both heat and cool your home through just one unit situated outside your home.
Since a heat pump can perform both heating and cooling functions it has more than one energy rating. SEER2, also known as Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio, measures the cooling efficiency of your heat pump packaged system. Homeowners should talk to their local independent Trane dealer to find the best system for their home.
HSPF2 or Heating Seasonal Performance Factor, is the other energy rating for heat pumps. The HSPF2 rating measures how efficient the heat pump is at heating, with higher ratings meaning more efficient. Homeowners should look for systems with an HSPF2 of 6.7 or higher when it comes to single-packaged heat pumps.
This is a great question. Proper HVAC system sizing is crucial to ensure optimal comfort and efficiency. Work with a Trane HVAC professional to determine the correct sizing for your packaged heat pump unit. These Trane units are available as a 5-ton heat pump packaged unit, 4-ton heat pump packaged unit, 3-ton heat pump packaged unit, and 2-ton heat pump packaged unit, as well as 2.5 and 3.5-ton units.
Your heat pump packaged unit replacement cost (or new installation cost) will vary widely depending on the cooling capacity (in tons), efficiency ratings, number of cooling stages, and other factors. Contact your local Trane dealer for specific pricing.
A problem with your heat pump packaged system could be caused by numerous factors, but once you notice a problem, the question becomes whether you should repair or replace your system. Our Repair or Replace tool can give you a recommendation in just a few minutes using some basic information.
